Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham wasn’t meant to be the club’s newest star. However, the Blues’ transfer ban last summer and lack of strikers has led to his emergence as their go-to player in front of goal.

Abraham earned his spot as Chelsea’s starting No. 9 by default. Had Chelsea not had a transfer ban, it is almost certain they would have sold him to another club. Aston Villa had been Abraham’s team last term in the EFL Championship and the Villains were desperate to bring him back after he scored 25 goals in 37 league games.
Yet, Chelsea held onto the 21-year-old forward and manager Frank Lampard has given him a shot to lead the line. Abraham is truly carrying Chelsea in the Premier League and without his goalscoring, the Blues would be sunk in the league.
Tammy Abraham is Chelsea’s new striker star
Abraham ended gameweek 5 with seven goals in five Premier League matches for the Blues. He is the league’s joint-top scorer alongside Sergio Aguero. The 21-year-old is amongst some fantastic goalscoring company currently.
The striker has tallied 64% of Chelsea’s goals. The Blues have scored 11 in total. Scarily for Chelsea supporters, attacking midfielder Mason Mount has scored three of those 11 goals. The young duo has tallied 82% of Chelsea’s goals as the old guard has failed to adapt to Lampard’s ways at Stamford Bridge.
Had Maurizio Sarri remained at Chelsea and/or a transfer ban not been imposed, it is doubtful either man would have had a chance at Stamford Bridge this season. Chelsea have basically lucked into the duo.

Abraham’s seven goals are 4.23 more than his expected goals figure. The Blues are truly getting more from Abraham than they had bargained for as the striker parlayed his success from 2018-19 into this season.
Can Tammy Abraham keep up his scoring?
Abraham has been crushing it in Fantasy Premier League over the course of the last three gameweeks. After compiling two points in gameweek 1 and gameweek 2, the striker exploded against Norwich City with 13 FPL points.
A week later he scored 13 points once again against Sheffield United in a two-goal game. Gameweek 5 saw Abraham reach a new FPL points high with 14 courtesy of a hat-trick. He now has 42 FPL points overall.
The striker’s seven goals have all come in the last three matches with each game being a multi-goal game. But that is the big problem for Lampard. Abraham has carried the Blues in each of those three matches.
His two goals against Norwich City enabled them to see off the Canaries 3-2. His two goals against Sheffield United covered up Chelsea’s defensive issues. The Blues exploded for five goals against a woeful Wolverhampton Wanderers with Abraham bagging 60% of those strikes.
Abraham’s goals are covering up Chelsea’s awful defence. Their last three matches, all positive results, came against teams currently 13th place or lower.
Take away Abraham’s seven goals in Chelsea’s last three games and those matches end 2-1, 2-0, and 2-2 for a total of one point. Yes, a striker’s job is to score goals, but Chelsea are being saved by Abraham while the defence continues to ship goals.
Chelsea have conceded the second-most goals in the Premier League (11). They are one goal behind Norwich City for the most conceded this term. The Blues have allowed the most goals of any team currently in the league’s top 12.
The Blues host Liverpool in gameweek 6 and the potential is high to shift a large number of goals. The teams already played this season in the UEFA Super Cup with Liverpool winning on penalties. The good new for the Blues is every Premier League match following gameweek 6 until gameweek 13 his incredibly winnable.
Can Tammy Abraham continue to score goals? If he doesn’t, Chelsea may be sunk.
