Ireland’s Showjumpers have won classes in both France and the USA in recent days.
Billy Twomey took the top prize of €15,000 when winning the feature class at the five-star show in Dinard, France, the 1m55 Prix Suez with chat Botte E.D.
In the one-round speed competition Twomey and the stallion Chat Botte E.D. stopped the clock in 77.51 seconds, ahead of Swedish runner-up Douglas Lindelow with Cheldon, who clocked 78.95 seconds.
Kevin Babbington won the FEI Assante Classic with Shorapur at the 2019 International Bromont at the Olympic Equestrian Park in the USA. In the jump-off, Christine McCrea with Jarcobond Van Den Oude Eik went clear as the first combination into the arena, but their time of 40.37 seconds allowed others the opportunity to improve on the target time.
The steady pace of Irishman Babbington and Shorapur saw them go clear in a time of 35.15 seconds, a time that would remain unbeaten.
Kevin McCarthy took the top two spots in the $10,000 Manchester Designer Outlets Welcome Stake during week five of the Vermont Summer Festival.
McCarthy’s success, his fifth major win at the six-week Vermont Summer Festival, came aboard Easton, with the Irish rider also finishing in second with Catch A Star HSS.
In the jump-off, McCarthy and the 10-year-old Oldenburg gelding Easton set the early time to beat at 32.13 seconds. The lead remained untouched, with the Irish rider and his nine-year-old mare Catch A Star HSS coming closest with 34.92 seconds, good enough for second place.
