How could Sevilla forward Wissam Ben Yedder fit in at Manchester United?
News on Tuesday indicated Manchester United have agreed on a transfer to sign Sevilla Striker Wissam Ben Yedder.
The news may have shocked a few fans as the Red Devils are in the market to sign a new forward to challenge Romelu Lukaku for the No. 9 position in the starting XI. However, the duo may not play together as Inter Milan are stepping up their pursuit of Lukaku.
Ben Yedder is manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s preferred striker signing this summer as he attempts to reshape the Red Devils.
The Frenchman is two years older than Lukaku but his age shouldn’t be a factor in his performances for the team if he arrives at Old Trafford.
Last season, Ben Yedder played 35 times in La Liga for Sevilla scoring 18 goals and tallying nine assists. His performances helped Sevilla finish sixth and qualify for the Europa League.
Ben Yedder helped Sevilla tally 1.57 points per match in the league and scored a goal every 157 minutes.
Lukaku scored 12 times in 32 Premier League games for Manchester United last season averaging one goal every 178 minutes.
Can Wissam Ben Yedder do it at Manchester United?
The Sevilla man led the club in goals in all competitions with 30. Sevilla’s next closest high goal man was Pablo Sarabia who tallied 23. Sarabia earned an unlikely transfer to Paris Saint-Germain already this summer.
Sevilla have Monchi in charge once more. He depleted Roma’s squad selling their best two players in consecutive summers to Liverpool. Could he now sell Sevilla’s best striker to Manchester United?
Ben Yedder is a solid goal scorer, but can he do what he has in Spain for Manchester United in the Premier League? He will have a different group of players around him with differing tactics. Although Manchester United have better players (arguably) than Sevilla, Ben Yedder may not fit in.
Watching Ben Yedder play he does look like a striker in the vein of Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez. Chicharito was a strong player for Manchester United during his time at the club. A real fox in the box that was always capable of scoring important goals whether he started or came off the bench.
The Frenchman’s league 18 goals were his most in a single season since 2015-16 with Ligue 1 club Toulouse where he tallied 17.
Can Ben Yedder repeat his goalscoring feats?  Bedding into the league and Manchester United won’t be easy especially with expectations high.
