In the wake of Manchester United’s win, they have lost just once since Solksjaer took over for Jose Mourinho in December, leading bookies have claimed Solkjaer’s appointment as the permanent boss is a “done deal”.
Is Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s appointment as Manchester United manager a done deal?
According to former Manchester United right-back Gary Neville, Solskjaer will be appointed manager during the next international break.
There is still the chance that Manchester United could approach Tottenham’s Mauricio Pochettino or former Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane. However, Solskjaer’s work in the dugout as led many to believe he will be officially given the job soon.
Neville, working as a pundit for Norway’s Viasport, stated he is surprised over the transformation of the team. Neville believed Solskjaer would help re-connect the supporters and the club. However, the interim manager has actually exceeded all expectations.
According to the Manchester Evening News, several top bookmakers have now suspended bets on Solskjaer taking over the club on a permanent basis.
Bookmakers have also slashed the odds on Manchester United to win the Champions League.
VAR proves its worth again
VAR once again showed just how important it is during Manchester United’s win. Had VAR not been in place for the game, the Red Devils would have most likely lost despite a clear handball occurring.
Manchester United were not the only side to benefit from VAR. Porto were rightfully given a penalty in extra-time against Roma after Alessandro Florenzi pulled down a Porto player in the penalty area.
The Red Devils will be joined by Tottenham, Porto, and Ajax in the quarterfinals. The other four quarterfinal teams will be decided next week.
