The Dingle GAA Official caught on video punching an East Kerry player in the replay of the Kerry Senior Football championship replay on Sunday last has been dealt a proposed eight week ban according to RTE Sport.
The CCC are understood to have met on Monday night to dicuss the incident and consider the referee’s report and the proposed ban for the official who has been charged with a Catergory 2A offence. An appeal can be lodged within the next three days however the Kerry County Board haven’t released the name of the individual in question. The East Kerry manager Gerry O’ Sullivan whom was sent to the stand in that game, was found not guilty of no offence, he received no ban therefore. However East Kerry players David and Paul Clifford pick up one match bans for their red cards which were issued in the game.
Speaking to Radio Kerry after the game Kerry senior star Paul Geaney said he didn’t believe there was anything malice in the game. He said “When there is Adrenaline pumping and there are physical stakes it is possible to happen”. The Kerry ace said further “You are looking at you team mates and if they are in trouble you are going to help them, there was no malice in any of them”.
The final itself is due to take place this Sunday where Dingle are scheduled to play Dr Croke on Sunday afternoon. It could be a very anxious few days in Dingle as the Kerry County Board await the referee’s match report before proceeding with further player bans or not. It remains to be seen what will happen but I am sure we will know in the coming days.
